Even hard drive encryption can be defeated

If an attacker has physical access to a computer, then there is no way to secure its data against him: New Research Result: Cold Boot Attacks on Disk Encryption (via Schneier).

    That’s not really a fair analysis; if the machines are powered down then any half-decent full disk crypto overwrites its own keys in RAM. If a machine is left powered, then full-disk crypto is no use anyway…
