{"id":159,"date":"2008-09-24T17:03:52","date_gmt":"2008-09-24T17:03:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/index.php\/2008\/09\/24\/new-courses-this-term\/"},"modified":"2008-09-24T17:03:52","modified_gmt":"2008-09-24T17:03:52","slug":"new-courses-this-term","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/index.php\/2008\/09\/24\/new-courses-this-term\/","title":{"rendered":"New courses this term"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are just in the middle of our termly\u00a0 launch period for our <a href=\"http:\/\/onlinecourses.conted.ox.ac.uk\/\">online courses<\/a> and it is looking like we are going to hit 700 students\u00a0 this term, which is really amazing considering how recently we were pleased about having 100!<\/p>\n<p>Most excitingly we are launching new courses in <a href=\"http:\/\/onlinecourses.conted.ox.ac.uk\/coursequeries.php?id=O08P340LTV\">English Poetry of the First World War<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/onlinecourses.conted.ox.ac.uk\/coursequeries.php?id=O08P345LHV\">Using the Victorian Census<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/onlinecourses.conted.ox.ac.uk\/coursequeries.php?id=O08P331AHV\">Vikings: raiders, traders and settlers<\/a> as well as the Postgraduate Diploma in <a href=\"http:\/\/cpd.conted.ox.ac.uk\/PID\/\">Paediatric Infectious Diseases<\/a>; developed in conjunction with the Medical Sciences Division here at Oxford.<\/p>\n<p>The poetry course has been written by Sandie Byrne one of our most popular course authors and provides a great tie in with the exciting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thegreatwararchive.org\/\">The Great War Archive project<\/a> that our colleagues in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oucs.ox.ac.uk\/\">OUCS<\/a> are leading.<\/p>\n<p>Developing the Victorian Census course has been an immense task, but I think we have created a great practical course to get people started with this amazing resource.\u00a0 This course also provides access to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ancestry.co.uk\/search\/rectype\/census\/uk\/default.aspx\">Ancestry.com<\/a> for the duration of the programme\u00a0 which is probably worth the course fee on its own.<\/p>\n<p>For the Vikings course we have done some really innovative work with Google Maps about which we will be writing some more about soon.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly with the Paediatric Infectious Disease programme we have worked closely with the\u00a0 learning technologies group in Medical sciences whose expertise in e-assessment has allowed us to include some great self assessment opportunities for the students.<\/p>\n<p>I think our ability to launch four such varied new courses in the space of a month is a real testament to the work of the whole team and everyone at Continuing Education and the rest of the University who has made each course possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are just in the middle of our termly\u00a0 launch period for our online courses and it is looking like we are going to hit 700 students\u00a0 this term, which is really amazing considering how recently we were pleased about &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/index.php\/2008\/09\/24\/new-courses-this-term\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[16,4,3,5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-159","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-conted","category-launches","category-news","category-short-courses"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/159","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/6"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=159"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/159\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=159"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=159"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=159"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
