{"id":1044,"date":"2011-11-28T11:32:16","date_gmt":"2011-11-28T11:32:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/?p=1044"},"modified":"2011-11-28T12:54:18","modified_gmt":"2011-11-28T12:54:18","slug":"oer-sesame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/index.php\/2011\/11\/28\/oer-sesame\/","title":{"rendered":"OER Sesame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Sesame.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1045\" title=\"Sesame\" src=\"http:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Sesame.jpg\" alt=\"Genie in an oil lamp\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Sesame.jpg 640w, https:\/\/tallblog.conted.ox.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Sesame-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I am delighted to report that we have received funding from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/oer\">Higher Education Academy\/JISC Open Educational Resources Programme Phase 3<\/a> strand for the Sesame project.<\/p>\n<p>Sesame aims to\u00a0 produce a rich and sustainable source of open educational resources (OER), aimed at adult learners and their tutors, but of use to all, across a broad range of subject disciplines.\u00a0 The resources will be made freely available for others to view, download, re-purpose, and incorporate in to their own learning and teaching.<\/p>\n<p>The specific aims of the project are to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Embed open ways of working in the development and delivery of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.conted.ox.ac.uk\/courses\/weekly\/index.php\">Department&#8217;s Weekly Class Programme<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Increase awareness and knowledge of OER among staff and students.<\/li>\n<li>Enable weekly class students to find and use appropriate, validated OER in their work.<\/li>\n<li>Improve part-time tutors&#8217; skills and confidence in identifying, using and creating OER.<\/li>\n<li>Widen access to Oxford\u2019s teaching to new audiences globally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To achieve these aims the project will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create and release new open content.<\/li>\n<li>Develop tools and processes that facilitate open practices.<\/li>\n<li>Provide training to support part-time tutors to identify, use and create OER.<\/li>\n<li>Develop infrastructure to enhance discovery of OER generated by the Weekly Class Programme.<\/li>\n<li>Share lessons learned from the project with JISC and the wider community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The project began in October 2011 and will end in October 2012.<\/p>\n<p>For TALL this project is an exciting move from our work consuming OERs through projects such as <a href=\"http:\/\/mosaic.conted.ox.ac.uk\/\">Mosaic<\/a> and our broader online course development work, and researching how others do this in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/media\/documents\/programmes\/elearning\/oer\/OERTheValueOfReuseInHigherEducation.pdf\">OER Impact<\/a> reports.\u00a0 It will also give us a chance to contribute to the wider work\u00a0 producing <a href=\"http:\/\/podcasts.ox.ac.uk\/open\">OER at Oxford <\/a>that the <a href=\"http:\/\/openspires.oucs.ox.ac.uk\/\">OpenSpires<\/a> project has started so strongly.\u00a0 I am hopeful our experience as end-users will help us produce more usable and useful OER and that is certainly something we will be investigating as the project moves forward.<\/p>\n<p>Image:<span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/shannonzhang\/3217242929\/\"> Genie in an oil lamp.<\/a> \/ <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/shannonzhang\/\" rel=\"cc:attributionURL\">shannonzhang<\/a> \/ <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc-sa\/2.0\/\" rel=\"xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license xh:license license\">CC BY-NC-SA 2.0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am delighted to report that we have received funding from the Higher Education Academy\/JISC Open Educational Resources Programme Phase 3 strand for the Sesame project.
