How do you communicate socially?
A realisation came over me a couple of days ago; I have been trying to arrange to meet a friend for lunch for about 3 weeks – the usual set of emails and text messages had gone out – with no reply. Then something hit me, he had recently emailed me through Facebook to tell me some good news, presumably while telling a number of his other friends, so I decided to send him a quick message saying I was trying to get through to him – the result an almost immediate reply…
While I know lots of people are using Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, etc. and making their ‘web home’ iGoggle, Netvibes, etc. I suddenly realised that while people look at their email almost everyday if it’s a question from a friend then people are becoming more inclined to discuss and make plans through the social network sites (sorry I had to put a buzz word in somewhere), even when the communcation is between two individuals!

Yes, this is a good point.
I think facebook and other similar sites will play a keyrole in people’s live in the future.
I find many people are more likely to answer their facebook messages than their email, funny.
Thanks for sharing this point of view,

Ps. I did a 30 minute interview about Facebook recently, you can find it on my blog http://www.lassetips.com

This is often because people make social network websites their homepage at work and their email may only be read at home which they may be too tired to load when they get in at night.
I had the same problem.

Good point, although the details that I omitted from the original post was that I have his work email and this is the same email he uses for his Facebook account!
